After Yangcheon district separated from Gangseo district on Jan. 1st, 1988 and Yangcheon district office was opened on May 16th, of that year, the 16th of May was set as the 'Yangcheon People' day, and a festival has been held every year with a commemorative ceremony.
Various events for children, juveniles, women & seniors are held to promote harmony & unity of the district's people in diverse fields including folk arts, cultural arts, sports, with a different theme each year.

The 15th of January in the lunar calendar is one of the biggest residents' festival in Yangcheon Gu. It's an event where children & old people can experience the traditional culture together while reconstructing traditional season customs and seeing folk art performance by the Anyang creek. Especially, a finale Korean circle dance provides an atmosphere of harmony where all the residents hold hands & go round burning branches and pray for their wishes & peace.

At the Marathon for Dokdo, marathoners run for their health with the cool wind along the Anyang creek. This is an event for all family to inspire growing children with the historical awareness & patriotic feeling that 'Dokdo is our island.'
