Yangcheon was originally called Jechapauihyeon during the Goguryeo kingdom and the name changed to Gongamhyeon, Yuljingun 16 years after Gyeongdeok King's coronationcoronation during unified Silla(757), Gongamhyeon, Yanggwangdo 14 years after Seongjong King's coronation during Goryeo and Gongamhyeon, Sujugun 9 years after Hyeonjong King's coronation(1018). During the above mentioned changes of the administrative district, the name was changed from Yangwon to Yangpyeong to Pareung to Jeyang, until finally, it was called Yangcheon 2 year after Chungseon King's coronation during Goryeo (1310). Thus the name evolved to its current form, with a much deeper meaning than the original name meaning small rock cave. In 1914, it was merged into Kimpo Gun and incorporated into Yeongdeungpo Gu, Seoul in 1963.
